Gulfstream Park Race 9 The Ginger Brew
2 Isabel Alexandra 10-1
3 Cairo Consort 7-5
6 Anna Karenine 3-1

Isabel Alexandra chased a sharp early pace and weakened to finish sixth last out going 7 ½ furlongs over the turf here in the Wait a While. She showed some ability breaking her maiden in her debut and then made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot at Keeneland over good ground in her first start against winners. Four have come out of that race to run back with a second the best finish. Looks as if the added ground will suit and her 10-1 morning line looks more than fair.

Cairo Consort makes her first start since running third at 19-1 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) last November. She ran a good second prior to that effort in the Natalma (G1) at Woodbine going a mile. She makes her first start her for Pletcher after a private purchase. The trainer is just 14% winners with newcomers to the barn and the price is going to be light.

Anna Karenine looks like a danger as the newcomers. She was fifth last out in the Prix du Calvados (G2) at Deauville. Of the four that finished ahead of her just one has won since, and that was on polytrack.

Santa Anita Park Race 4 Alw $72,000N1X
10 Moose Mitchell 4-1
3 Thorne House 5-2
1 Queen’s Code 8-1

Moose Mitchell stretches out from five furlongs where last out the gelding tracked the early pace, took over the lead and could not hold off the winner in a runner up finish at this level at Del Mar. He was a close up third over the turf here at this distance in his first start for the barn off the claim, beaten a half-length. He is 0 for 4 on turf in his career but has run pretty well, landing in the money in three of those trips.

Thorne House return off nearly a three month break here for the Pederson barn that has won with 4 of his last 8 (with a +ROI) coming back off a 61–180-day layoff. The gelding was the beaten chalk last out at this level in his turf debut. It was not a real tough group, six exiting that race to run back and none finished in the top three in their next outings. He won at this level two back on the main track. With just four starts and one turf trip under his belt he appears to have more upside than most of these.

Gulfstream Park Race 11 Md Sp Wt
6 Moon Cat 4-1
1 Fabled Prince 20-1
3 Mutaawid 6-1

Moon Cat was sent off at just under 13-1 in his debut here in a race taken off the turf. After racing near the back of the pack the colt made a mild late run to finish fourth. Irad takes over and this colt should take to third. He is by Malibu Moon out of the turf stakes winner Fanticola, a G2 winner on turf who missed by just a neck in the 2015 Gamely (G1). The mare has dropped two winners including a turf winner.

Fabled Prince debuts for the Sweezy barn that is 10% winners with first time starters. This colt is out of a Pleasantly Perfect mare that has dropped six foals to race, all winners including four turf winners and three stakes winners. A steady string of works on the morning tab at Palm Meadows and this guy is going to be a decent price.

Santa Anita Park Race 6 The Sunshine Millions F&M Turf Sprint
3 Alice Marble 5-2
5 Eddie’s New Dream 7-2
1 Big Summer 4-1

Alice Marble is going to be tough as she makes her second start off a six-month layoff. Last out off the bench she made a mild late bid to finish third going five furlongs. Three back over this course at this distance she was a game second in the Monrovia (G2) back in April. She won here at 6 ½ on the downhill back in February in the restricted Wishing Well.

Eddie’s New Dream cuts back from a mile where last out she tracked the early pace while down along the indie and faded to finish eight in the Matriarch (G1). She beat Cal breds in the Distaff ‘Cap here two back at 6 ½ furlongs. She figures to bounce back with the class relief and cut back in distance.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 California Cup Oaks
1 Carole Lombard 8-1
3 Grazed My Heart 4-1
8 Sell the Dream 2-1

Carole Lombard takes on winners here after breaking her maiden last out going a mile on turf in her second career start. She was bumped coming out of the gate, tracked the early pace and finished gamely to earn her diploma. It was not a real tough group of state breds she faces but she still appears to have some upside. She is out of a stakes placed Afleet Alex mare that has dropped four other turf winners. Decent value if she goes off near her 8-1 morning line.

Grazed My Heart broke her maiden on turf two back going a mile over the turf here. She returned to dirt last out and put in a solid effort in a runner up finish in the Cal bred Soviet Problem, beaten by Cast member who is in here. Both of her starts on turf were solid and she just needs a little pace in front of her in this spot.
