`The Breeders’ Cup is horse racing’s Super Bowl, only instead of one final game there are 14 championship races run over two days that decide division championships as well as Horse of the Year honors.

It has become an international event, with dozens of horses coming from around the world to compete for over $30 million in purses. The races range from a turf sprint for juveniles to a 1 ½ mile turf marathon.

In 1982 John Gaines and some of the most prominent breeders in the industry came together to hatch the idea of a year-end championship. In 1984 at Santa Anita the Breeders’ Cup was born. It consisted of seven championship races.

When the 2022 Breeders’ Cup is held at Keeneland on Friday Nov. 4 and Saturday Nov. 5 there will be 14 races with $31 million in purses up for grabs. “Future Stars Friday” kicks things off.  The five races restricted to juveniles is highlighted by the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile which often produces the early betting favorite for the following spring’s Kentucky Derby.

There will be nine races on Saturday highlighted by the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, a race that usually decides the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year.

For horseplayers the two days of action offer some of the best wagering opportunities of the year. Full fields, and large betting pools with a wide variety of betting options offer horseplayers plenty of value and action.
